Indoor Go Kart Racing – What You Need to Know

Aftermarket Parts Articles No Comments

The world of go kart racing has evolved to include outdoor and indoor racing. Racing has traditionally been held outdoors but more and more drivers are competing at the indoor circuit nowadays. So on those rainy or winter days, you can always enjoy indoor racing without worrying about Mother Nature. However, there are some differences between racing outdoors as compared to inside an enclosed building.

In general, indoor go kart race tracks have slippery floors. This can make driving around corners more difficult. Having your kart slide across the floor will slow down your speed and your race time. Ideally, you should try to avoid sliding as much as possible. There are some racing tracks that maintain go karts with solid rear axles, which can help in this situation.

When racing go karts indoors, there is a small learning curve to becoming familiar with the kart you are given. You will need to make the necessary adjustments to get the maximum speed out of your kart. You may notice that some have a tendency to slide in the back portion of the kart. Others will push in the front and may not respond to how you steer. Not all karts will have equal sized wheels which may pose as more of a challenge when driving. This will cause the kart to pull towards one side rather than going in a straight line. You will need to adjust accordingly to your kart in order to be competitive and race well. This includes changing your driving style.

Indoor go karting can definitely be challenging, but it can be exciting nonetheless. It is a sport that requires quick reflexes and wiliness to adapt to the kart you are given.

Insurance Claims – Dealing With Adjusters

Aftermarket Parts Articles No Comments

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Insurance adjusters’ claims handling can go very well, or it can be a nightmare. But part of the responsibility is YOURS!

Have you ever thought about what kind of service you should expect from the adjuster when you file a claim?

A professional, intelligent, honest adjuster is a pleasure to work with. He treats you with respect and gives his best effort to complete his investigation as quickly as possible. He is patient, knowing that you are not familiar with the claims process. He understands how upset you might be about your claim. He senses that you have already been frightened by the loss itself, and now may be frightened about the claims process.

He explains the process to you before he begins it, and invites you to be an active participant, not a spectator. He sits down with you and reads your policy with you, and explains it as he goes. He makes sure that you have his contact phone numbers, so you can get your questions answered when he’s not there. He answers his phone messages promptly.

The professional claims adjuster must have empathy for people. I’m not sure if that is a skill that can be taught with a book or a class. Some of the empathy must come from a person’s upbringing. Compassion for another human being who is hurting or afraid must come from deep within a person. Even having said this, it is not unusual for a person to have his compassion and empathy stretched thin by the things that happen in life.

Haven’t you heard a story from a friend or relative about how badly the insurance company treated them when they had an insurance claim? I think most people have.

In today’s world, poor customer service is nearly accepted as the norm. Sadly, we are overjoyed and amazed when we get good customer service. We’re astounded and tell all our friends when we get great customer service.

Most people I’ve met who had a loss, and filed a claim, never thought for a minute about what kind of service they would get from the adjuster that the insurance company assigned to handle their claim. But, I’m writing today to make a couple of points that will be CRUCIAL to you collecting all the claims settlement money you’re entitled to collect:

1. The pool of qualified, trained adjusters is drying up.

I still read industry magazines. In the latest edition of Claims Magazine, and in the latest edition of Best’s Review, there were articles stating that the insurance claims adjusters nationwide, as a group, were marching on toward retirement years. They went on to say that there is a huge concern in the insurance industry that the most capable, most experienced adjusters are leaving the industry, and that there is a growing shortage of experienced adjusters in the North American market today. The articles also said that these days, insurance companies are spending less time and money training adjusters.

If the insurance companies are worried, YOU as a consumer should be DOUBLE WORRIED!!

Why?

Because inexperienced adjusters won’t be as thorough in the claims process. They won’t have years of experience to fall back on. They won’t know policy language and the claims process as well as the “old guys.”

Have you heard the old saying, “The Devil is in the details?” I’ve said over and over that the claims process is where the devil hides. Most of my book is about teaching consumers that they must educate THEMSELVES about the claims process. The claims process is NOT in the policy. The insurance companies will not tell you…the consumer…about the process, because if they did, the insurance settlement amounts would skyrocket!

You want a couple examples?

First: You’re in a traffic accident, and your car is damaged. The adjuster will likely tell you to go get three estimates from three different repair shops. They’ll want to pick the lowest one, or the middle one as the agreed estimate. However, there’s NOT ONE WORD in your policy that forces you to get three estimates. That is a waste of YOUR time. You should get an estimate from the repair shop of YOUR choice, not the insurance company’s choice. Then, the adjuster should work from your estimate. By the way, if your insurance company has “approved repair facilities,” you should know that they work for a huge discount, and regularly use cheap, aftermarket auto parts…which leads me to the next example.

Second: The insurance industry is totally sold on “aftermarketparts for auto repair. These parts may fit your car, and may work on your car, but they are of inferior quality to the original equipment manufactured parts the automaker used to build your car. You should NEVER allow the insurance company to insist on aftermarket parts to repair your car. There is NOTHING in your policy that gives the insurance company permission to use cheap parts to repair your car. In fact, most policies guarantee you “like kind and quality” repairs. Aftermarket auto parts save the insurance company bunches of money, but only at your expense.

2. Knowing that the talent pool is shrinking, it’s more important than EVER to make sure your adjuster is qualified to handle your claim.

In Chapter 7 of my book I wrote at length about the qualifications of an adjuster. I also wrote about what level of service you should expect from the insurance adjuster who handles your claim.

You should interview your adjuster and find out his education and claims experience. If you do not believe that your adjuster has the education and experience to handle your claim, you should call his supervisor and request that your claim be transferred to a more experienced adjuster. Further, I say in Chapter 7 that if the adjuster has less than two years’ experience, ask for another adjuster. If the insurance company refuses, call your state’s Department of Insurance and file a complaint.

Don’t allow yourself to be bullied by the insurance companies. But, that will require YOU to take responsibility for YOUR OWN education.

If you take control of your claims, you WILL add hundreds or even thousands more dollars to your claim settlements!

Toyota Camry – CNG Plus Hybrid Power Equals Wow!

Aftermarket Parts Articles No Comments

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Of all of the hundreds of vehicles on display at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show, one of the most intriguing to me was the compressed natural gas powered Toyota Camry Hybrid concept. Toyota, which had a press conference for their luxury Lexus brand during the press days which I attended (but not for Toyota or Scion) still managed to display the hybrid Camry, a car not like any other one at the show. But, the concept Camry could one day prove to be a very popular model if certain energy initiatives come to pass. Please read on to learn about the natural gas powered Camry and how this car could revolutionize the way that we drive.

Toyota is a leader when it comes to hybrid technology, producing the gas-electric Prius and other models including the Camry. But, a natural gas-electric hybrid Camry is a new idea, one that hasn’t been considered for production until now.

According to Toyota, compressed natural gas produces lower particulate emissions, nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and non-methane organic gases and less CO2 per unit of energy when compared to gasoline. It can also run at higher compression ratio and is quickly dispersed into the atmosphere should a leak occur.

Best of all, natural gas is one resource in abundant supply in the US and costs as much as 40% less than gasoline. So, why aren’t natural gas cars being produced?

That’s easy: the infrastructure for natural gas is currently not in place, with fewer than 1000 refueling stations nationwide. Under half of those stations aren’t open to the public, making refueling difficult if not impossible in some areas of the country.

If the federal government commits to expanding our natural gas infrastructure then the chances of the Toyota CNG hybrid going into production improves. This is something the next Administration will want to tackle as natural gas burns cleaner and reduces our dependency on foreign sources of oil, especially oil purchased from countries who are openly hostile to our way of life.

The displayed Camry concept is powered by the standard 2.4L, 4-cylinder engine found in base model Camry’s today. With Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive, the gasoline fuel system is replaced with a compressed natural gas system, the main difference between the two hybrid Camry models.

Producing 170 horsepower, the CNG Camry Hybrid would get nearly identical fuel economy to the gas electric Hybrid, 33 combined fuel economy. Two compressed natural gas fuel tanks are stored in the spare tire well area of the car, safely removing the tanks from view. To make up for a lack of a spare tire, Toyota outfitted the Camry with Bridgestone run flat tires, but I could see a spare tire holder fitted into the trunk lid which would be a smart as well as attractive touch for the CNG hybrid Camry.

Alas, the CNG hybrid Camry will not go into production anytime soon, other than perhaps for regional availability in markets such as Southern California which can support these types of vehicles. With gas prices being so low again, a compressed natural gas car isn’t ideal right now but it could be when gas prices start climbing again next Spring. By then, the Obama Administration may have a new energy policy in place, one that embraces alternative fuel sources including compressed natural gas.

Poor Gas Mileage

Aftermarket Parts Articles No Comments

Ever since gas prices shot up, many people have been doing everything they can to savor every drop. Now that gas prices are going back down you shouldn’t stop your quest for better mileage. Poor gas mileage can stem from many different issues. I’m a firm believer that knowing why you should do something is much more helpful than someone just telling you to do it. I’ll do my best to make the explanation as non-technical as possible, and hopefully leave you with some extra money in your wallet.

There are two terms that you will hear me use, and for those of you that may not know, let me explain. Your thirsty unleaded auto gets where it’s going by mixing fuel and air, and then setting it on fire. The air and fuel mixture has a certain mixture that works best for power, burning clean and good gas mileage. However, if your car is burning too much fuel and not taking in enough air, then it’s considered to be running RICH. If it’s doing just the opposite and taking in too much air and not enough fuel, then it’s considered to be running LEAN.

So, if you’re using too much fuel, then you more than likely have a running RICH problem. The way you car breathes is normally your greatest problem. How clean is your air filter? Typically air filters are only good in the city for 15,000 miles and 7,500 if you live in the country. If your air filter is dirty your fuel mileage plummets. Your intake (the part of the engine where the air comes into) can also build up a thick wall of gummy carbon that will restrict the air and leave you again with a running rich issue. Check you air filter, and if you have more than 15,000 miles on your car, and it has not been done then you should consider having your service department perform an induction service on your ride, and that’s not the same as an injection service.

An injection service is another way to gain good mileage. It’s a service that can be done at a shop and is meant to clean the fuel injectors to help them spray better. Except, you can save the expense on that service by burning 93 octane fuel once a month or every 4 fill ups, or by using a good fuel additive every once in a while. You see the simple things can be done, and most of them you can perform. Although a clogged exhaust is a somewhat rare issue for excessive fuel consumption on most vehicles it can happen. Your car will typically run very poorly if that is your issue.

There are also some electronics that can and often do result in too much fuel consumption. Your Oxygen or O2 Sensors can wear out, and cause a Lean or a Rich Condition. The only catch is that your shop will have tell you if it is bad or not, unless you have an automotive code reader. Again, don’t worry yourself; your “check engine soon” light will usually stay lit when your O2 Sensor does go bad. Understand that O2 sensors are the most typical electrical issue for poor mileage, but not the only one. You can check one of our volumes for better detail.
